The extremely charming town of Stralsund is located on the strait separating Rgen from the mainland. One of the most beautiful cities in eastern Germany, famous primarily for its wonderful old town, inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.

TRIP TO STRALSUND OCEANARIUM

The city, in addition to its historic buildings, also offers the largest and most modern Oceanarium in northern Europe, which reveals to visitors all the secrets of the Baltic Sea and life in the northern seas. It contains approximately seven thousand specimens of flora and fauna occurring in these waters. Modern installations in large halls and impressive aquariums with marine fish and mammals.

Oceanarium

On an area of ??9.7 thousand m, in four buildings connected to the main hall by stairs, galleries and elevators there are approx. 7 thousand. species of plants and animals living in the waters of the Baltic Sea, the North Sea, the North Atlantic and the Polar Sea. There are life-size models of the largest marine mammals, which hang in the main hall (20 m high). There we will see large aquariums with whole schools of fish and smaller ones with fish from the temperate and northern seas. You can see live, among others: sturgeons, silverfish, cod, flounder, plaice, jellyfish, anemones and octopuses. There are five thematic exhibitions in the oceanarium. At the "Wszechoana" exhibition you can see the mysterious and fascinating world of deep and dark seas. The strangest fish, jellyfish and squid are presented in glass cases. The second room is dedicated to the Baltic Sea. Here is, among others: porpoise, the only native one. a Baltic whale reaching 1.8 m in length. The illuminated cloud of planktonic organisms suspended in the central point of the room makes an incredible impression. The history, geography and geology of the Baltic Sea are presented on a plasma screen. There is also an interactive table where you can check fish migration routes and wind directions. For the youngest and most curious children, there is a special room with interactive devices for playing and learning. A great attraction will also be a six-meter long tunnel under the aquarium, where visitors will be able to gaze at forests of marine algae and observe the life of lobsters, crabs and monkfish.
